About the Founder

Dave Rogers was born in New York City in 1969. At the age of 15 he left home to live on the streets of NYC. After six years of living on the streets and putting himself through high school and getting into college Rogers joined the Army in 1989.
During his service he had several deployments and postings overseas. Near the end of his carrier Rogers was stationed with the 1-69th Infantry for the World Trade Center, where he broke his neck, bring his 14-year service to an end.
Rogers struggled after service to find his place in civilian society again. After some years of hardship with the assistance of his service dog Grunt, his cousin, the VA and VSOs Rogers was finally back on his feet with a determination of making sure that other veterans would not go through what he did. He started working with various Veteran Service Organization to help veterans in need.
During the Pandemic Rogers started helping veterans who were not getting hot meals. It was during this time that he started @cookingwithaveteran with a simple goal of helping veterans fight food insecurities. Rogers can be seen traveling around with Grunt helping feed veterans, raise money for veteran programs and walking the hill to help fight for legislation to assist veterans and their families.
